How Do Foggers Work? Parts, Modes and Pod Swaps Explained

What is inside each Foger device, how to use one from the first puff, and why you replace a fogger pod instead of refilling it.

Short answer

Foggers are draw-activated: when you inhale, the battery heats a dual mesh coil that turns pre-filled e-liquid into vapor. The Switch Pro uses a magnetic pod on an 850 mAh power bank; the Bit 35K is one sealed piece. Neither is refillable. You switch between Normal and Boost, adjust airflow, and on the Switch Pro you replace the pod when it runs dry.

Every fogger we sell is built from the same four working parts: a battery, a tank of pre-filled e-liquid, a mesh coil, and a sensor that fires the coil when you inhale. What differs is how those parts are packaged. The Switch Pro battery we also sell on its own is just the first of those parts, a 1200 mAh base with no pod.

The Switch Pro splits them into two pieces. The power bank holds the bigger battery. The pod holds the liquid, the coil and its own small battery, and it snaps onto the bank with magnets. That split is what lets you change flavors or replace a used pod without throwing the battery away.

The Bit 35K keeps everything in one body. The battery, the 21 mL tank, the coil and the curved screen are built together, and the whole device is retired when the liquid runs out. It also has overcharge and short-circuit protection built in, and an electroplated body styled after a Bitcoin coin, which is why people call it bitcoin foggers.

The puff ratings (up to 30,000 Normal on the Switch Pro pod, up to 35,000 Normal on the Bit 35K) are Foger's lab figures. Your own total depends on draw length and how much you use Boost.

How Does a Fogger Vape Turn E-Liquid Into Vapor?

A fogger works the same way as most disposable vapes. There is no button to hold down to fire it. It is draw-activated.

  1. You inhale through the mouthpiece.
  2. An airflow sensor inside detects the draw and switches the battery on.
  3. The battery sends power to the mesh coil, which heats up.
  4. The coil sits against material soaked with e-liquid from the tank. The heat turns that liquid into vapor.
  5. Air pulled in through the airflow inlet carries the vapor up to you.
  6. When you stop inhaling, the sensor cuts power and the coil cools.

A mesh coil is a flat, perforated metal sheet instead of a single wound wire. It heats across a larger surface. Both Foger devices here use a dual mesh layout, two mesh strips side by side, which spreads the heat further. The Switch Pro pod coil is 1.0Ω and the Bit 35K coil is 0.8Ω. A lower resistance draws more current from the battery at the same voltage.

The liquid itself is 5% salt nicotine with flavoring in a base liquid. If you want the details on strength and form, are foggers salt nic covers the label device by device. The short version: the kit, the 5% pods and the Bit 35K are all 50 mg/mL, and the zero-nic Foger pod has no nicotine.

Because the system is sealed, the only things you control are when you puff, which mode you are in, and how open the airflow is. Everything else is fixed at the factory.

How to Use Foggers Step by Step, From Box to First Puff

Switch Pro 30K kit

  1. Unbox and remove stickers. Take off any stickers or protective film on the pod and the power bank, including anything covering the mouthpiece or the contacts.
  2. Attach the pod. Line the pod up with the top of the power bank. It pulls into place magnetically. You should feel it seat.
  3. Check the screen. The OLED shows battery, puff count and the active mode. If the battery reads low, charge the bank with a USB Type-C cable first.
  4. Inhale. Draw slowly through the mouthpiece. There is no fire button; the draw starts it.
  5. Pick a mode. Use the device button to switch between Normal and Boost. The screen shows the active mode.
  6. Adjust airflow. Open or close the airflow until the draw feels right to you.

Bit 35K

  1. Unbox and remove stickers. Peel off any protective film, especially around the mouthpiece.
  2. Check the screen. The curved OLED shows battery, puffs and mode.
  3. Inhale. The Bit is draw-activated too.
  4. Pick a mode. When Boost is on, the screen shows a Bitcoin icon. No icon means Normal.
  5. Adjust airflow to suit your draw, and watch the tank window to see how much liquid is left.

That is all there is to it. There is nothing to fill, no coil to prime and no settings menu. If a new fogger doesn't fire on the first draw, check the stickers are all off and the battery is charged. For how to read the battery and get the most from each charge, see charging foggers in the battery guide.

Can You Refill Foggers? Why Foger Pods and Bits Are Sealed

No. Foggers are not refillable. The Switch Pro pod is pre-filled and sealed, and the Bit 35K is a sealed one-piece device. Neither has a fill port, and neither is meant to be opened.

That answers the three versions of this question people ask most: are foggers refillable (no), can you refill foggers (no), and how to refill foggers (you don't; you replace the pod).

What "fogger vape refill" actually means

When someone talks about a fogger refill, they mean a replacement Switch Pro pod. The pod is the refill. It comes pre-filled with 15 mL of 5% salt nic and its own 1.0Ω coil, and it snaps onto the power bank you already own. You throw away the used pod and keep the bank. Our foggers refills page lists every pod flavor with live stock, at $16.99 each.

Why not to open or refill one

Prying a pod or a Bit open to add liquid tends to go badly. The seals break, so the device leaks. The coil was matched to the factory liquid. And you lose any chance of a replacement if the device turns out to be faulty, because a device that has been opened can't be checked as it arrived. If a pod or Bit seems to have a problem, stop using it and get in touch rather than opening it.

For the Bit 35K there is no refill of any kind. When its 21 mL is used up, the device is finished and you start a new one. If refilling matters a lot to you, a sealed fogger is the wrong tool, and the comparison of devices similar to foggers is a better place to look.

How the Foger Magnetic Pod Swap Works on the Switch Pro

The Switch Pro pod and the power bank hold together with magnets, not a thread or a clip. To remove a pod, pull it straight up off the bank. To fit a new one, set it on the top of the bank and let the magnets pull it into place.

When the pod is seated, two things happen. The bank's 850 mAh battery connects to the pod's contacts and recharges the pod's own 200 mAh cell while it is docked. And the kit's OLED screen reads out battery, puff count and mode.

Changing flavors mid-pod

Because the swap is magnetic, you can take a half-used pod off, put a different flavor on, and switch back later. The pod keeps its remaining liquid. Some people keep two or three pods going at once for different times of day. Just store spare pods upright and clean, with the mouthpiece and contacts free of lint.

What the pod does not fit

Switch Pro pods fit the Switch Pro power bank and nothing else. They don't fit the Bit 35K, and they don't fit other brands' batteries. If you are shopping for foggers without the battery, make sure you already own a Switch Pro bank. If you don't, start with foggers with a battery, which is the kit with the bank and one pod included.

The pod can also be used off the dock, since it is draw-activated with its own cell. It just lasts far less per charge that way, because 200 mAh is a fraction of the 1,050 mAh it has on the bank.

What Normal and Boost Mode Change Inside a Fogger

Normal and Boost change how much power the battery sends to the coil. Boost sends more. The coil runs hotter, more liquid turns to vapor per puff, and you get a bigger, warmer hit. The cost is that the liquid and the battery go faster.

DeviceNormal ratingBoost ratingHow to tell it is on Boost
Switch Pro podUp to 30,000 puffsUp to 18,000 puffsThe screen shows the active mode
Bit 35KUp to 35,000 puffsUp to 25,000 puffsThe screen shows a Bitcoin icon

On the Switch Pro, you change modes with the device button. Leaving it on Boost all the time brings your total toward the lower rating; staying on Normal keeps it toward the higher one. Most people land in between.

The mode doesn't change nicotine strength. The liquid is 50 mg/mL in both modes. Boost just vaporizes more of it per puff. For the full arithmetic on how many days each mode gives you, see foggers on Boost in the battery guide.

Fogger Airflow Explained: Tighter MTL vs Looser DL Draw

Both the Switch Pro kit and the Bit 35K have adjustable airflow. The setting controls how much outside air mixes into each puff, and that changes how the draw feels.

  • Tighter airflow (MTL, mouth-to-lung). Less air comes in, so the draw has more resistance, a bit like drawing on a cigarette. You pull vapor into your mouth first, then inhale. Flavor tends to feel more concentrated.
  • Looser airflow (DL, direct-to-lung). More air comes in, the draw is easier, and you breathe the vapor more directly into your lungs. The vapor feels cooler and airier.

Start in the middle, take a few puffs, then move it one way or the other.

Airflow and mode work together. A tight airflow on Boost gives the warmest, most concentrated puff. An open airflow on Normal gives the lightest one. There is no right setting; it is a matter of feel. If you are still choosing between the two systems, types of foggers lays out who each one suits.

Fogger Not Hitting or Leaking? Common Problems in Plain Terms

ProblemMost likely causeWhat to try
No hit at allBattery flat, or the pod isn't seatedCharge over USB Type-C; pull the Switch Pro pod off and seat it again so the magnets pull it flush
No hit on a brand-new deviceA sticker or film still onCheck the mouthpiece and the pod contacts
Weak or fading flavorPod or tank close to emptyCheck the Bit 35K tank window; plan a new Switch Pro pod
Burnt tasteLiquid used upReplace the pod; retire the Bit 35K
LeakingDamage, or the device was openedDon't try to refill or open it; stop using it and contact us
Pod alone dies fastRunning on its 200 mAh cellDock it on the power bank

Most "broken fogger" reports turn out to be one of the first two rows. A flat battery or a pod that isn't sitting flush on the bank both feel like a dead device. Seat the pod again, charge it, and try again.

A burnt taste with a charged battery is the clearest sign a pod is done. Charging won't help, because the coil has run out of liquid to vaporize.

How Foggers Work FAQ

How do foggers work?

Foggers are draw-activated. When you inhale, a sensor switches on the battery, which heats a dual mesh coil. The coil turns the pre-filled e-liquid into vapor that you breathe in. The Switch Pro splits this into a power bank and a magnetic pod; the Bit 35K keeps it all in one sealed body.

How do you use foggers?

Remove any stickers, then on the Switch Pro snap the pod onto the power bank magnetically. Check the battery on the screen, inhale slowly through the mouthpiece, and switch between Normal and Boost with the device button. Adjust the airflow until the draw feels right. The Bit 35K works the same way without the pod step.

Are foggers refillable?

No. The Switch Pro pod is pre-filled and sealed, and the Bit 35K is a sealed one-piece device. There is no fill port on either. On the Switch Pro you replace the pod when it runs out and keep the power bank. When a Bit 35K is empty, the whole device is finished.

How do you refill foggers?

You don't refill them; you replace the pod. A Switch Pro replacement pod comes pre-filled with 15 mL of 5% salt nic and its own coil. Pull the old pod off the power bank and snap the new one on. Opening a pod to add liquid breaks the seals and tends to cause leaks.

How do you tell if foggers are on Boost?

On the Bit 35K, the screen shows a Bitcoin icon when Boost is on. On the Switch Pro kit, the OLED screen shows the active mode. Boost sends more power to the coil for a bigger hit, which uses liquid and battery faster, so the puff rating drops.

Ready for a fresh pod?

Switch Pro pods are $16.99 each, pre-filled and ready to snap on. 69 of 92 flavors are in stock right now.
